SPECIAL DISPATCH

The Fourth Annual Civil War Reenactment at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum in Vista (next to Oceanside) is only a few days away. The event gets better each year, so I hope that you have made plans to attend the event on March 13-14.

o

Due to increased re-enactor attendance, the first year's battlefield will serve as the bivouac site for both sides. For those of you who have never been there, the new bivouac site is approximately the size of the battlefield and bivouac sites, combined, at Fort Tejon. There will be plenty of elbow room. We will use the same battlefield as last year. It is in the vicinity of 500 yards long and 100 yards wide. It will offer plenty of maneuver area.

There will be a low cost dinner ($4.50 Spaghetti) on Saturday night and a low cost breakfast ($4.00)on Sunday morning. The "grub" prepared by the museum staff and volunteers has always been a big hit with the reenactors, so keep that in mind when making your plans for the weekend.

o

Two TV stations will be broadcasting from the site on Saturday. This is the sort of publicity that you can't buy, and should have a great impact on attendance. I’m not sure, but I think last year's event was the biggest Civil War reenactment ever held in San Diego County,

General Robert E. Lee (our own Todd Holmes) is scheduled to attend. We were ask to do the Appomattox Surrender scenario at the event. All military officers and men are invited to participate.

Remember, there is no fee for reenactors. Each sutler will donate a gift certificate for the reenactor drawing. Depending on the size of the gate, a cash drawing will be held. Last year we, three $100.00 cash prizes, along with the sutler's gift certificates were given away. You must be present to win!

o

Firewood, straw, and hay for horses will be provided. Fire pits may not be required. Don’t forget to bring period type chairs to set upon. Each family should bring chairs/tables for their personal use as well as for the public if you invite them to sit with you.

Re-enactors under 18 who will be attending the event without parents present, please contact Ed Mann via email Howitzers1@aol.com for a waiver/release that must be signed by a parent. Please don't show up at the reenactment without the proper signature! Captain Grace will be checking for registrations. The minimum age for combatants on the field will be 14.

o

In general, the safety rules and regulations used at the Moorpark event will be applied. These are essentially slightly modified FTHA rules and regulations.

Military: Please contact Captain David Grace or 1st Sgt Jeff Ingertson if you are attending.

Living History: Please contact General Grant (Larry Clowers) if you are attending.
